Total trash now. The original models were a great product but they have cheapened everything on the current models. Plastic is paper thin, parts don't fit correctly, plastic containers don't fit the opening securely, mechanism is weak and raspy. DO NOT BUY, total waste of time and money until they improve the quality.
This is only my third Littermaid in almost 20 years, I had one that lasted about 8 years and when it went belly up, I bought a second one, which lasted less then a month, I took it back and got this one, the last two were bought at Walmart, the third one has lasted almost 12 years now and 2 cats, it's great about once a week I have to empty the receptacles, I don't even have to change them anymore, I got this thing called "Bag-It" which uses plastics shopping bags inside the receptacle, so I only have to change the actual receptacle if it gets torn or wears out which saves me a ton of money. [...] On the whole the litter box does what it is supposed, sometimes waste gets stuck in the tines but that's easily cleaned about once every couple of months, I take it apart and wash it good and put fresh litter in it. My cat uses it, there are no issues due to a dirty litter box. Since I'm disabled, it's difficult for me to bend down, since I only have to do this once a week, it's perfect for me and everyone in the household is happy, you wouldn't even know that the litterbox is there. This one has paid for itself and when ever it dies on me, I'll have no problem buying a new one to replace it. If you buy one and it doesn't work, take it back and get another one, sometimes you get a defective one. My first one was $120, the second one was $99. I have the older one, the classic, the first one came with the ramp, the second one didn't but the ramp from the first one worked and so I used it. If you hate changing the litter box, I would recommend this. If you have more than one cat, I would get the Mega, otherwise the classic works well.
