Not perfect, but Pros outweigh Con August 25, 2010
By Rachel
I'm fairly convinced there's no "perfect" cat litter out there. I'm always going to have to sacrifice some features for others. In my opinion, Swheat Scoop does the best to balance these features.1. Low track. This is definitely more low-track than any clay litter I've used in the past. Despite using all kinds of little kitty mats, clay litters would create a little path down the hallway. Swheat just tracks immediately around the box; clean-up is MUCH easier and limited to the room where the box is, rather than creating a trail throughout the house.2. Affordable. This is more expensive than your average clay, no doubt about that. But when compared to other bio-degradable brands, namely World's Best, this is easier on the wallet. Another bonus is that they recently (in the past year) began a customer reward program. There are little slips in the bag and after you collect 10, you send in the tickets for a free bag. I have to buy litter anyway, so why not get a free bag out of it at some point?another point for customer service: When I called to ask about a missing buyer reward ticket in my newest bag, the woman kindly explained the issue and sent me an envelope stuffed full of coupons!3. Low odor. The only time we notice any odor in the catbox is when kitty has a stinky poop and doesn't cover it. Sometimes she does, sometimes she doesn't. When she does, odor is MUCH more controlled. I can walk into the litterbox-containing room or have guests walk in and not worry about offensive odors. The litter itself has a distinctive, slightly "floury" smell, but that's much better than the smell of cat excrement!4. Bio-degradable/Earth-friendly/Cat-friendly. It is made without clay, so I can buy it without worrying about the clay mining process, and I can also watch kitty wash her paws without worrying about what she is ingesting. It is also biodegradable, septic safe, and/or compostable, which offers many options for owners who wish to dispose of litter in a more "green" way.I know people have mentioned the sticking-to-the-box issue, which I have not experienced. The company recommends spraying Pam/Non-stick cooking spray on the bottom of the litterbox before pouring in the litter. I followed this directive and credit it with easy clump removal. Keep in mind every month I empty the box completely so I can put in another coating of cooking spray. Now with all those "pros" in mind, I will say it is not the strongest clumping litter. Part of this is the fact that my cat pees in the EXACT SAME SPOT every time, meaning she saturates the litter if she pees in the same spot before I've cleaned it. Another contributing factor is due to our cheap scooper - I need to get a better scooper and see if that helps. Because of this, cleaning the box is a bit slower of a task than with clay, where it was one scoop and go. But all these other factors outweigh the one con on the imperfect clumping. I would definitely recommend this litter to friends, advising them to purchase a good quality scooper (i.e. not something you pick up in Kroger at the last minute).edit Jan 2011 For a few months we transitioned to World's Best, just to see the difference. And we're going back to SWheat. The World's Best definitely does clump better, I will give it that, but the smell is a little different and more off-putting. But more than that, the dust. Oh my goodness, the DUST! I first noticed a few items in our litterbox-room that have a slight layer of dust from WBCL. I finally said "enough" when I found dusty cat footprints in hallways or sometimes on furniture. Never had that problem with SWheat, and I'd rather spend a little extra time getting those pesky clumps than following my cat around with a damp cloth. We've done WBCL and are coming back to SWheat!

Effective odor elimination September 4, 2010
By Joey
The thing that bothers me most with a cat litter box is its smell. I have tried several cat litters and Sweat Scoop Multicat is the only one that has absolutely no smell. I was really surprised with its effectiveness in odor elimination when I first used it because it does not contain any chemicals --- all natural enzyme. My girl friend is allergic to the dust from other cat litters such as Arm ; Hammer. She has not been sneezing as frequently after we switched to Sweat Scoop Multicat. The downside of this car litter is its low clumping ability. I have an automatic cat litter box but I still need to perform daily scooping because the urine does not clump as effectively as Arm ; Hammer and spreads over a larger area. Additionally, the residual tends to stick really hard to the litter box and automatic rake, and it requires more effort for cleaning. Personally, these are small tradeoffs for odor elimination. In my opinion, the biggest drawback is its packaging material. The paper bag is absolutely not durable and it not uncommon to see a punctured bag spill over the litter in Petco. Imagine if this happen in your house. To resolve this problem, I typically pour the Sweat Scoop Multicat litter into my old Arm ; Hammer box for proper storage and transport within the house.

A Comparison: World's Best and Swheat Scoop May 18, 2011
By A. Taylor
UPDATE After using Swheat Scoop exclusively for about a month I just couldn't take it anymore. The clumping is TERRIBLE turning into this gelatineous mess that is near impossible to get out when it clings to the side. Also, even though I scoop daily, the order of ammonia was just too much to take. World's Best Cat Litter NEVER smells like that and is the number one reason I got rid of the clay litter. In order to get rid of the smell I would have to completely empty and clean the catboxes every other week or weekly instead of monthly. That pretty much doubles the cost of Swheat Scoop. Plus, after awhile, my cats quit using the litterboxes I can only assume because they stink horribly. Plus the endless sweeping from all the tracking with Swheat Scoop was pretty much the last straw. Switched them back to World's Best Cat Litter and EVERYONE in the house is much happier. Let me preface this with a bit of background. We have 5 cats and 6 catboxes, so I deal with a lot of...waste. We used clay cat little no matter how much I hated the smell because it never occurred to me to use anything different. Until the repairman came to fix our furnace which was clogged up with dust and his recommendation to us was to remove the cat boxes from the room because the dust clogs up furnaces all the time. If it can clog a furnace, what the heck was it doing to our cats who inhale it every time they dig? I ended my relationship with clay right then and there. Our first litter change was Feline Pine Clumping, but it tracked so horribly we had to switch to the pellets. I still have nightmares I'm sweeping and sweeping and still have sawdust everywhere. The pellets were livable, but them smell got to me sometimes. Then my mom recommended World's Best Cat Litter, so I tried it and they loved it. Then I read about Swheat Scoop and decided to give it a shot since we were changing. I decided to do a little test and filled three of the catboxes with Swheat Scoop and three with World's Best. Here is how they did:Odor - The World's Best definitely has a stronger order than the Swheat Scoop right out of the bag. Not exactly an unpleasant odor, but Swheat Scoop has absolutely no odor. Both of them absorb the cat waste odors magnificently. I have to give this category to Swheat Scoop though, but not take away stars. They are FAR better than clay litters with odor controlTracking - Swheat Scoop definitely tracks more than World's Best. We sweep daily, but I still find wheat pieces all over. Definitely not as bad as Feline Pine Clumping, but not as good as World's Best which tracks very little.Scoopability - Hand down World's Best. The clumps don't fall apart nor do they stick to the side of the litter box. Swheat Scoop is definitely better clumping than clay, but the clumps made with urine melt together and turn into this gelatinous mass that sticks to EVERYTHING including my scooper. I found it annoying enough to take away a star.Price - I paid $34 for a 36 pound bag of World's Best, so about .94 a pound. I paid $23 for a 25-pound bag of Swheat Scoop, so about $.92 a pound. I will go through 18 bags a year of World's Best, but 30 bags of Swheat Scoop (it gets used up quicker because it takes more to absorb the liquid). So, $612 a year for World's Best and $660 for Swheat Scoop. Though Swheat Schoop "swheatened" the pot by offering coupons with their litter. If you buy 12 or more same sized bag, you get a bag of that same size free. That is two free bags of litter a year, which drops the price to $616. I am going to give them both a tie on price until Swheat Scoop stops offering their coupons.Cat Preference - My felines are definitely not finicky, but had been using the World's Best for a few months before I introduced Swheat Scoop. Paws down Swheat Scoop won with them! The catboxes with the Swheat Scoop were used at least twice as much as those with World's Best.Which one will we go with? Well of course Swheat Scoop! Since both the litters pretty much tied punch-for-punch in our household I am going to go with the litter that my feline friends prefer, even if scooping is a pain. After all, they are the ones that have to paw around in the litter all day. I don't even have to touch it!
