Customer Reviews

I have had two Littermaid automatic catboxes in the past so when my second Littermaid broke I decided to try another brand which is the Our Pets SmartScoop PLUS Automatic Cat Litter Box; Here are my comparisons of the Litermaid vs. Smartscoop:
Littermaid:
Plastic rake that does not go all the way to the bottom of the litter box; tends to not scoop all of the waste and tends to break up the clumps.
Rake rolls along an inside track that gets clogged with litter.
plastic waste container that costs more money than its worth.
Motor/rake assembly does not come off so when you clean the box you have to be careful not to get it wet inside or you could cause damage to the motor.
Smartscoop:
Rust proof Metal tines on rake that do not run on a track inside the box but on an outside track that does not get clogged with litter! (Littermaid runs on inside track and it constantly gets clogged with litter and sometimes gets stuck)
Rake goes all way to the bottom of the box and is able to scoop up large clumps of litter without breaking them up!
plastic waste bags are easier to install and use and are much less expensive, however, you can use wal-mart bags! Also, I was reusing the plastic container for the Littermaid and dumping the waste into wal-mart bags to toss in the trash anyway, so Smartscoop cuts out the plastic waste box and the extra step I had of dumping the litter from the waste box to the bag. =c) I have two cats so I change the bag out once a week so if you have only one cat you could probably go two weeks. Also, the carbon filter on the waste receptical cuts down the odor. The Littermaid that I had did not have a carbon filter.
Entire motor and rake assebly comes off for quick, easy and thorough cleanup of the litter pan.
After having TWO Littermaid products that broke for different reasons, I have been using the Smartscoop for about 6-months now and I love it! One other piece of advise is to buy the no-stick spray; this will allow clumps of litter and waste to not stick to the sides of the litter pan and rake; it also seems that the litter pan is larger. When my last Littermaid broke I had to scoop the litter myself for a while until my Smartscoop arrived and I noticed that while the rake was not working the waste clumps were not getting broken up and I was scooping them out in single clumps; I thought the cats were breaking up the clumps or maybe the clumping litter was not clumping like it claimed, but apparently the rake was breaking them up so the Littermaid is worthless; I had to go behind it to scoop out the litter that it didn't get so what's the point in having a litter box that is supposed to do the job for you when you have to go behind it to do a better job?! good thing it broke because I am (so far) totally happy with the Smartscoop!
The Smartscoop is the best one for the money IMHO...oh, and the motor seems quieter than the Littermaid, too.

worked great for two weeks then motor broke, smart scope is going to send a new motor so we will how long this one lasts but there customer service was good to deal with the problem.
